Books read for 2011
Dec. 31st, 2011 01:47 pmSo again, here's my list of books I read for 2011. I didn't make a goal of getting 50 again this year, but I'm still a bit disappointed. It was a pretty good year, though.
( A full, if not as long as I'd like, list. )
Best: An Instance of the Fingerpost. Really solid, multiple POV, thoroughly researched and engrossingly presented historical fiction; considering Stone's Fall was the best book I read last year, you could say I'm a fan of Iain Pears now.
Most recommended: Someday This Pain Will Be Useful to You. It's a fast read with vivid characters and great dialogue in a coming-of-age story. I loved it a whole lot.
Worst: Huh. Looking back, there wasn't anything really bad. That's a good thing! Probably this is Essays by Wallace Shawn, and that wasn't terrible.
Most surprisingly good: Boy Meets Boy. Not that I don't like David Levithan; I do like him a lot. Thing is, I'd avoided that for a while because I thought the premise sounded too whimsical. But then I read it fell into it like I usually do. Shows me for judging, I guess.
Most disappointing: Talking about Detective Fiction. Really, I would have hoped for more from P.D. James on this point, since she's so knowledgeable and contributed so much herself, but it wasn't as comprehensive or well-described as I'd have liked, even if it was still interesting enough and droll.
Next year, I'll try to get more reviews up, and to get some more books down, but more on that tomorrow, probably. ^_^
